Healthy Tip: The importance of water in our daily diet

Healthy Tips September 9th, 2008

Drinking at least two liters of water per day is the basic necessity and more so when you are dieting. This is very essential from a health and wellness point of view and should not be taken lightly. The body required water for removing the waste products from it and to supply oxygen to the cells, maintain our body temperature and regulate it. Water makes up 70% of our body, keeps the muscles toned and brings down the deposits of fat in the body. Water also gives a glow to our skin, and keeps the hair and nails in good health. For weight loss management water is really essential as it suppresses hunger which comes from a habit of overeating and increases the rate of metabolism. Drinking water will eliminate fatigue. Water is truly required for health and fitness.
An easy way to keep a track of how much water you have consumed is to measure the quantity in bottles of one or two liters each and keep a note of how much you have consumed. Drinking from smaller bottles may be more convenient so keep 4 small half liter bottles and you will not find this difficult to finish during the day. Health care professionals recommend this daily dosage of water.
Keep a bottle of water next to you while you are at work and keep sipping it occasionally even if you are not thirsty. This way you will get through the 2 liters with ease and without feeling the effort of drinking it. You could add some lime juice and honey with some ground mint to your water to make it more palatable and give you some added nutrients too. Drink water first thing in the morning even before your first cup of tea or coffee, and a large glass before each meal to bring down the amount of food you consume at each meal.
Summary: Drinking 2 liters of water may seem difficult initially but it will become a way of life and you will be doing it even without realizing that you are consuming the required amount of water daily without even trying.

Healthy Tip: Flax seeds the all rounder in health care

Healthy Tips September 8th, 2008

Flax seeds have more benefits than one can imagine. These small golden brown grains with a nutty taste are packed with so many essential factors which give us a good enough reason to have a daily dose of them. Health care professionals recommend flax seeds health and wellness. Flax seeds help relieve arthritis, depression, burn fat, build muscle, are good for the skin and help relieve constipation. These seeds resemble sesame seeds and are not expensive. They are packed with omega 3 oils which are not produced by the body.
Flax seeds are easily available at any grocery store and are easy to eat. You can either chew them as they are, or powder them and mix them in your porridge, fruit juice, fruit salad, vegetable salad and top your yogurt with it too. Once flax seeds have been powdered it is better to keep this powder refrigerated as it may turn rancid. There are supplement pills also available, but the original flax seed is much cheaper. From a health point of view, it is always better to consume things in their natural form. These seeds and the powder should never be heated up and should be eaten raw. If you are taking your daily dose of flax seeds make sure that you drink a lot of water too. You need to have two to three table spoons of flax seed powder per day.
The omega 3 oils in the flax seeds breaks down the deposits of cholesterol in the body and also puts a thin blockade to prevent further deposits of cholesterol. Cholesterol deposits are known to cause blood clots and blockages in the arteries which cause strokes and heart attacks. An intake of at least 1000 mg. of Omega 3 is required to show any benefits in the cardio vascular health.
The production of excess androgens which are hormones produced during teenage, is controlled by flax seeds, and this helps in clearing up acne. This also helps prevent hair loss and water retention in the body.
